The stunning hills and fells surrounding Windermere are ideal for cyclists of all ages and ability. The Grizedale Forrest Park, just across Lake Windermere, is home to a number of popular cycling trials.
Silurian Way is the longest of the Grizedale Forrest trails at 14 miles. Cyclists are able to take in many pieces of art work along the Grizedale Valley as well as wonderful views on this part Forest and part public road route. Cyclists should be prepared to encounter some hills though!
Hawkshead Moor Trail
Hawkshead Moor Trail is a 10.5 mile trail along the Forest Road. Like the Silurian Way route, the Hawkshead Moor Trail commences from the Visitor Centre and offers amazing panoramic views towards Ambleside and Coniston Old Man. The shortest Forest road trail is the Goosey Foot Tarn Trail. At 2 miles long, the trail can be completed in half an hour and features the smaller climbs in the park.
North Face Mountain Bike Trail
For proficient mountain bikers with good off-road riding ability, the purpose built North Face Mountain Bike Trail is a popular option. The 10 mile trial incorporates a number of single-track descents, many intensive climbs and numerous challenging boardwalks. For an even greater challenge, mountain bikers can follow the Black MTB Trail. At 0.8 miles, the route incorporates a fast and flowing combination of jumps, berms and steep descents.
