What’s happening: After giving a brief overview of the ecology of eagles worldwide and their status in Britain, Neil Harnott, Senior Conservation Officer for Cumbria Wildlife Trust, will examine in more detail the history and ecology of eagles in Cumbria, with particular attention being given to the eagle territory at Haweswater. All ages are welcome. Just turn up.

Dutchman Tim Kliphuis is one of the most imaginative, exciting and entertaining violinists on the acoustic scene. Performing with Bruce Rollo on bass and James Birkett on guitar, he combines Gypsy, Classical, Folk, Tango, World music and Grappelli jazz to create an inspired and daring fusion with soulful melodies, driving rhythms and funky chords.

Coniston Powerboat Records Week

What’s happening: Coniston Power Boat Records Week is the only event in the Powerboat Racing Calendar to bring together all classes of boat. Competitors and officials from all over the country assemble annually for what has been a popular event since it’s inception in 1970. For almost a hundred years Powerboat record attempts have been made on several of the English lakes. The most famous drivers have been Sir Henry Segrave, Sir Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell.

What’s happening: Cross Bay Challenge is a truly unique way to experience the stunning scenery of Morecambe Bay and the South Lakes. Historically the quickest route from Cumbria to Lancashire at low tide, the bay crossing dates back to the 13th century when monks from the local abbeys served as guides to travellers. Whilst the monks have now been replaced by highly-experienced guides equipped with a host of navigation and safety equipment, the experience of being out on the sands remains breathtakingly beautiful.

Making it wild at South Walney

What’s happening: Activities will include taking down electric fencing, maintaining trails and hides, clearing scrub and cutting a new trail ready for summer 2013. This is a great way to learn something new and meet new friends. Please wear outdoor clothing and bring a packed lunch. Children under 16 years of age are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
