Giant Pandas and Sleeping Dragons by Pollyanna Pickering

What’s happening: Pollyanna is one of Europe’s foremost wildlife artists. With her daughter she journeyed into one of the remotest areas of China, the Tibetan Borderlands, aiming to paint pandas. The two became the first western women ever to travel into one of the mountain reserves, where they worked in a small hospital for sick pandas. This enchanting talk tells the story of their journey and shows the spectacular paintings which resulted from the trip. Please note the talk will begin at 7.30 after the AGM.

Picasso’s Tête de Femme

What’s happening: This tiny bronze sculpture is an incredibly rare cast of Picasso’s 1906 copper relief, depicting a strongly-stylised head of a woman, from one of the artist’s most intensely creative periods. The Lakeland Arts Trust is thrilled to have been lent this fascinating sculpture on long term loan, giving visitors the opportunity to glimpse a moment of this modern master’s creative genius as he worked towards his first iconic masterpiece, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon of 1907.
