Radev Collection: Bloomsbury & Beyond

What’s happening: The Radev Collection is named after Mattei Radev, who came to Britain in the 1950’s as a stowaway on a cargo ship, fleeing from communism in his native Bulgaria. Radev went on to build a new life in London mixing in the artistic Bloomsbury circle and becoming a leading picture framer for the London Galleries. The impressive collection includes works by British and international artists including Duncan Grant, Alfred Wallis, Ivon Hitchens, Ben Nicholson and Lucien Pissarro.

Modern Materials: Abbot Hall’s British Sculpture Collection

What’s happening: Lorna will be doing different greenwood craft projects over the weekend including making a cleft oak gate & a woven fence panel, & will have other products for sale. Come and see what Lorna is doing, maybe have a go at some of the techniques yourself! Lorna works coppicing two woodlands near Yew Tree Barn. Coppicing is traditional woodland management where the stems of young trees are cut close to the ground and regenerate, Lorna particularly enjoys making Oak swill baskets & Hazel hurdles.
